Winner of the category “Freestyle Demonstrator”: Integrated De-Icing System for Wind Turbine Blades

The prototype enables seamless integration of ice detection sensors (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) and heater actuators using embedded electronics for composite materials, ensuring robust functionality and reliability and formulate effective optimization and control methodologies for sensor-actuator systems on wind turbine blades. The ice detection sensors and heating system (heating track) are printed with conductive inks on continuous fiberglass mats and this printed fiberglass is embedded into an epoxy/glass fibre composite by infusion.
