Smart Scale

Current weight measurement systems such as scales are typically bulky, rigid and expensive. Printed electronics one the other hand allows to fabricated very thin, light-weight and inexpensive sensors, such as pressure sensors to detect weight. Such sensors were, however, until very recently not very suitable for measuring weight and were used for mapping pressure distributions rather than weighing. Such a technology could allow the production of inexpensive and tailor-made, enabling a tremendous number of applications requiring quantitative weight measurement.
