In the damage sensors developed at InnovationLab, conductive traces are printed on flexible foils and damage to the foil is measured by detecting a change in the electrical resistance of the traces.
In the damage sensors developed at InnovationLab, conductive traces are printed on flexible foils and damage to the foil is measured by detecting a change in the electrical resistance of the traces. The example of application given here is that of a refrigerated truck trailer where damage often occurs due to fork-lift assisted loading and unloading of merchandise. The damage is usually detected too late due to an increase in the inner room temperature.
Purpose
- Large scale coverage is the main advantage, the foils can detect damage over 3.8 m with a resolution of of 45 cm.
- Printing and cutting allows embedding in a composite material.
