E-Textile Haptic Glove

AlmaScience, Portugal

The e-textile haptic glove by AlmaScience is a smart glove for pressure sensing exerted by fingers during hand movements, such as grasping objects or clenching the fist. It provides haptic feedback through electrical or thermal stimuli they can give an idea of pressure (more intense signals when the glove is under high pressure or grabbing an object too tightly) or roughness (low intensity and time-spaced signals for smooth surfaces). Since all pressure sensing and haptic elements are made of fabrics functionalized with pressure sensitive and/or conductive materials, they are seamlessly integrated into the fabric of the glove, being thus imperceptible to the users and allowing them to perform natural movements.

Purpose

  • Detect hand movements and estimate the force exerted in said movements
  • Communicate with the user through electrical and thermal stimulus feedback
  • Problem solved: presence of rigid sensing elements and lack of sustainability in the materials used in pressure sensing gloves
