Transparent Lighting with microLEDs

Holst Centre (The Netherlands)

Demonstration of the integration of microLEDs for transparent applications lighting, signage and display applications. The substrate is flexible, giving the demonstrator form factor freedom. The demonstrator is designed in the shape of a triangle, and can be used, for example, as a “warning signage” integrated in a car back windshield. Target was to achieve a microLED bonding technology with printed interconnections on a transparent polyester substrate with fine-resolution circuit structures. Laminated in between glass panels it can show virtually undetectable lighting grid from certain distance. 120 microLEDs of 200 x 300 um are interconnected with printed adhesive on a Cu-grid.
