Heliatek (Germany)
The demonstrator is an adapted version of Heliatek’s first commercial organic solar film HeliaSol (dimension of 436×2000 mm (width x length)). This new HeliaSol prototype has a dimension of 645×2000 mm showing different possible formats of organic solar films. Even it is a larger solar film of 1.3 m², it only weights less than 3 kg in total compared to 20+ kg for conventional large-scale films. With such a large film, even bigger surfaces of rooftops and facades, of non-strain shapes or non-penetrable materials can be covered with one solar film.
The market trend in conventional PV goes towards larger modules, simply to increase the efficiency by
adding more silicon cells to the module. This has the disadvantage, that these modules get heavier and
more difficult to handle. The advantage of the HeliaSol 645×2000 is, that even it is a larger solar
film of 1.3 m², it only weights less than 3 kg in total compared to 20+ kg for conventional large-scale
films. With such a large film, even bigger surfaces of rooftops and facades, of non-strain shapes or
non-penetrable materials can be covered with one solar film. This also protects large areas of the
substructure material from wind, sand, dust and rain.
